Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery plays a central role in the history of the Cayuga Lake wine region of New York State. Their vineyard was the location of the first commercial planting of the grape variety Cayuga White. This mother-block of Cayuga grapes created a refreshing, versatile white, whose popularity has led to extensive plantings in wineries across the eastern United States. The owners of Cayuga Ridge, the Challen family, also grow a rare grape varietal called Chancellor -- a hard-to-find red that sells out quickly every year.

The wine maker, Tom Challen, is well-known from his years working internationally to produce exceptional wines. The variety of grapes grown in the family vineyards are cared for year-round to insure that the grapes produced for each vintage will create not only award-winning wines, but wine that will enhance and expand the expectations of wine connoisseurs around the world. With this ideal base, Cayuga Ridge Estate is able to provide all of us every year with an exciting array of aromas and flavors to share with friends. You can purchase any of their wines listed below for delivery anywhere in Europe!

If you are also interested in more information on the history, production and unique wines of New York State, please visit our Wine Info page, by selecting the icon on the side bar. In the mean time for your convenience, the following is a brief introduction to this wine growing region of the New World. The State of New York is the oldest and currently the second largest wine producer in the United States. It not only produces exceptional traditional European wines, such as Riesling and Chardonnay, but also wines from a variety of grapes that are difficult to find anywhere else in the world. New York's lakes, forests, and soil create an ideal home for its six wine regions. Two of these world class regions are the Finger Lakes AVA and the Cayuga Lake AVA. The Finger Lakes wine region is described in the "Oxford Companion to Wine" as having an exceptional climate for the cultivation of wine grapes. Deep glacier lakes from the Ice Age accompanied by gradually steep hills create a moderate climate year-round. The most interesting feature of this wine region is that three very different varieties of wine grapes are successfully grown and produced into truly unique, award-winning wines. Very few wine regions in the world can boast this fact. These three wine varieties are the following: vitis vinifera [European variety, examples include Riesling, Chardonnay], vitis labrusca [native American variety, examples include Niagara, Delaware], French-American hybrids [examples include Chancellor, Vignoles, Cayuga White].

Add a special touch to any meal or celebration: our portfolio compliments a wide variety of cuisine, and make great gift ideas for friends and colleagues. They are exclusively imported by Hunter & Hilsberg and can be purchased through our Web shop or by mail-order, or, through select retailers and restaurants in Europe -- please contact us if you would like to know the name of establishments in your area that carry our wine products.

We hope you will enjoy the wine from Cayuga Ridge Estate.
