Lakewood Vineyards is located on the southern end of Seneca Lake, the largest of the lakes in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York State. The proprietors of this well-established winery, the Stamp family, are now in their fourth generation of grape growers. This ranks them among some of the oldest growers in the wine industry in the USA. Lakewood is one of the few wineries in the world that works successfully with 3 completely different varieties of wine: vitis vinifera (typical European varieties such as Riesling & Pinot), vitis labrusca (native American varieties such as Niagara & Delaware), and French-American hybrids (such as Cayuga and Vignoles).
Every year their wine and their winery wins the highest acclamations imaginable. Alone in the past few years, they have been awarded "Wine of the Year," "Wine-Maker of the Year" and "Wine-Making Family of the Year." Their Riesling, for instance, recently competed among thousands of Rieslings from around the world, won Double Gold, and was then anointed the "Best of the Best" in the sweepstakes round. Lakewood wines are prominent examples of the quality and variety of wine available in this region of the world. You can purchase any of their wines listed below for delivery anywhere in Europe!

In the mean time for your convenience, the following is a brief introduction to this wine growing region of the New World. The State of New York is the oldest and currently the second largest wine producer in the United States. It not only produces exceptional traditional European wines, such as Riesling and Chardonnay, but also wines from a variety of grapes that are difficult to find anywhere else in the world. New York's lakes, forests, and soil create an ideal home for its six wine regions. Two of these world class regions are the Finger Lakes AVA and the Cayuga Lake AVA. The Finger Lakes wine region is described in the "Oxford Companion to Wine" as having an exceptional climate for the cultivation of wine grapes. Deep glacier lakes from the Ice Age accompanied by gradually steep hills create a moderate climate year-round. The most interesting feature of this wine region is that three very different varieties of wine grapes are successfully grown and produced into truly unique, award-winning wines. Very few wine regions in the world can boast this fact. These three wine varieties are the following: vitis vinifera [European variety, examples include Riesling, Chardonnay], vitis labrusca [native American variety, examples include Niagara, Delaware], French-American hybrids [examples include Chancellor, Vignoles, Cayuga White].
